Our First Woodland Day of the Year!
This is a monthly day dedicated to learning about and caring for the habitat in our Woodland space behind Meadowview School. Our goal is to become habitat heroes! This year in second grade our focus will be learning about the native plants and trees and how we can help care for them. Friday the Lake County Forest Preserve spent time with us teaching us about the plants and trees and how to identify them.
We also had a Mystery Reader Friday, Mr. Hoker!
Thanks for reading your favorite childhood book to us!
Literacy Center Fun and
Maker Space Games
We created games with our teams using materials in the
Maker Space. It inspired some students to go home and
make their own games! Way to go, second graders!
Super Hero Fun RUN!
Thank you to the PTO and all the parents volunteers!
We had a SUPER great time!
Our Volcano Experiment
In Science, we are learning about quick changes that happen on land. Each time a volcano erupts it creates another layer to the earth. We "erupted" our volcanoes 4 times. The students marked where the lava flowed to demonstrate another layer added. Then the "second grade scientists" recorded their data.
WHO HAS?
"Who Has?" is a fun way to review a skill we learned in class. Students find partners to help them answer a question than check it off their list. It engages EVERYONE in the learning activity! The boys and girls loved it!
Thank you to our first Mystery Reader, Mr. Wisniewski!
Thank you Olivia H. for sharing your special pennies with us!
Our "Local Government"
We studied how government helps keep us safe and helps people in a community to work together. Our second grade council wrote laws that they felt would be helpful in their own communities!
